Work or Volunteer with the Library

Interested in working or voluneering with the Mahwah Public Library?  The Mahwah Public Library connects you with the world of literacy, cultural diversity, and learning. In all cases, excellent training is provided to ensure that your experience is both enjoyable and fruitful. You will be able to acquire new skills and gain valuable experience, expand your social horizons, serve in your own neighborhood and most importantly, be appreciated for all your hard work!

Interested in volunteering?  The library can always use more help!  The Library uses a large contingency of first rate volunteers who perform a wide range of other tasks that benefit the Library. If you wish to volunteer your time please call 201-529-7323 or visit the library to see what times are available.


Volunteer ESL Tutors

The Library is starting an English as a Second Language program and looking for adult volunteers to help as ESL tutors. 

To be a volunteer, you need to enjoy working with people, demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing, and have a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Adult volunteers do not need to have a college degree or previous experience as a tutor. The Library will provide training through the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley.  The training consists of four 2-1/2 hour session . Once you complete your training you will be matched up with a student.  Your tutoring session can begin at the Mahwah Public Library in January 2016.

Part-Time Maintenance Technician

The Mahwah Public Library seeks an experienced Maintenance Technician to join the team. We are looking for a detail-oriented Maintenance Technician who is passionate about maintaining the Library as a beautiful, welcoming destination for all Mahwah residents.

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Technician performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently and that the physical condition of buildings is preserved or improved.   The Maintenance Technician sets up, moves and tears down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms; paints walls and ceilings; repairs damage to walls; installs and maintains fixtures and locks; repairs basic plumbing and electrical problems; tears down, moves and sets up shelving used to store library collections; and performs other maintenance and janitorial work as required.  The successful applicant will be meticulous, self-starting, adaptable, able to balance multiple projects and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Starting salary is $15.25/hour.  This part-time, 20 hour/week, position includes paid time off.

The successful applicant must meet the residency requirement outlined in the New Jersey First Act and pass a background check.
