A First Draft of History: Using Newspapers to Learn About Mahwah's Past

Dr. Cathy Moran Hajo and members of the Mahwah Newspaper Project will talk about their grant funded project digitizing newspaper clippings held by the Mahwah Museum. Dr. Moran Hajo will discuss stories historians can find in the news, providing examples, and demonstrate how to use them. Project participants will discuss interesting clippings and stories uncovered through the project. She will also discuss volunteer opportunities in this ongoing project-- transcribing clippings, scanning and entering clippings and reviewing work.  This program is free.  No registration is necessary.  Seats are on a "first come" basis.


New Jersey Council for the Humanities awards grants to fund the development of humanities projects for New Jersey audiences. The projects awarded grants demonstrate an awareness of the needs and interests of an audience and offer an opportunity for community members to explore our shared history, culture, values, and beliefs.
