Interested in working or voluneering with the Mahwah Public Library?  The Mahwah Public Library connects you with the world of literacy, cultural diversity, and learning. In all cases, excellent training is provided to ensure that your experience is both enjoyable and fruitful. You will be able to acquire new skills and gain valuable experience, expand your social horizons, serve in your own neighborhood and most importantly, be appreciated for all your hard work!

Paid positions are typically posted on the BCCLS "want-ads" page.  Open positions are also posted on this page from time to time.

Interested in volunteering?  The library can always use more help!  The Library uses a large contingency of first rate volunteers who perform a wide range of other tasks that benefit the Library. If you wish to volunteer your time please call 201-529-7323 or visit the library to see what times are available.

Volunteer ESL Tutors

The Library is starting an English as a Second Language program and looking for adult volunteers to help as ESL tutors. 

To be a volunteer, you need to enjoy working with people, demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing, and have a genuine enthusiasm for learning. Adult volunteers do not need to have a college degree or previous experience as a tutor. The Library will provide training through the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley.  The training consists of four 2-1/2 hour session .

Head of Adult Services

The Mahwah Public Library seeks a creative and enthusiastic professional to lead its dynamic Adult Services Department.  The successful candidate will have a strong interest in collections, programs and services for adults and be passionate about working in a team-based and customer-focused environment.  Come, grow with us! 

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, the Head of Adult Services will manage the daily operation of the Adult Services department in a way that will reinforce the Library’s standing as a leader in the community and profession.  He or she will be a collaborative leader with demonstrated team building and leadership skills.  As a key member of the Library’s management team, the Head of Adult Services will contribute to the planning and implementation of policies and procedures that enhance the Library’s wide-ranging public service initiatives.   The successful candidate will be passionate about great customer service and have an innovative, forward-thinking vision of how public libraries can best serve their communities in the 21st century and a willingness to embrace and facilitate change. 

This is a 35 hr/wk FLSA-exempt position with a competitive starting salary of $65,000-70,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Generous benefits, including medical/dental and paid time off, are included.  Professional growth, including mentoring and participation in regional professional activities, are encouraged.  This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is looking to take their career to the next level.
