    This fall (10/19/22–3/5/23), the Whitney Museum of American Art will be showing an important exhibit Edward Hopper’s New York. The city of New York was Edward Hopper’s home for nearly six decades, a period that spans his entire mature career and coincides with a historic time of urban development. Edward Hopper’s New York will take a comprehensive look at Hopper’s life and works through his city pictures.Artist and Art Educator Sue Altman will be discussing his life, his works, and his legacy.This program is both in person in the library and live streaming via Zoom. Registration is necessary on mahwahlibrary.org events calendar (Don’t forget to give us your email address). Registration will close 24 hours before the event. We will send everyone the Zoom meeting number, password, and URL meeting link at that time. You can join us in person or on Zoom.

    For Preschoolers. Get your child moving AND spark their creativity in this Yoga and Craft after school program. Children will learn funky yoga poses that will promote a lifelong love of reading and healthy lifestyle habits. In this class we use our bodies and our Imaginations.

    The craft workshop series is back in the library with a Ceramic Tray Craft that you can give as a present or keep for yourself. The instructor is Sorin Lungu from Creatively Yours a ceramic painting and glass fusion studio in Ridgewood and Tenafly. All attendees at the hour and a half workshop will get hands on experience and create their own ceramic tray craft. This program is offered both in person and as a take away kit. There will be a $25.00 non-refundable supply fee that must be paid at the time of registration. Registration is at the Check Out Desk. begins Tuesday November 1st.     Through centuries of art, much of it nowin East Coast museums, we’ll explore how a Greek bishop in Roman-era Turkey evolved into one of Christianity’s most beloved saints. Then in American artwork we’ll see Nicholas change again—into Santa Claus.​​ Norris holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in the classics from the University of California at San Diego, and a master’s of arts degree in the classics and a doctoral degree in art history from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent 20 years at the Cloisters Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and has lectured all over the world. This program is both in person in the library and live streaming via Zoom.     This craft is great for Preschool aged children, requiring only a few parts to make a cute little popsicle snowman. These can be turned into ornaments or magnets to decorate for the winter season!

    Evergreen trees and their pinecones are wonderful symbols of nature all throughout the year. Come explore the science behind evergreens and how they stay green all year long! Be a scientist and examine different pine specimens then get ready to use pine-cones and other natural materials to create some of the Critters who live in these beautiful green trees.

    How do you paint a passing perception? See how French Impressionist painters, rebelling against an ancient state system of art training, created new images quivering with energy and emotion through art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Princeton University Art Museum and the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers. Michael Norris got his BA in classics from the University of California at San Diego and his MA in classics and Ph.D. in art history at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent twenty years at the Cloisters Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and has lectured on trips all over the world.
