The Library has returned to in-person programs.

Many of the Library’s programs and events returned to in-person! Check the detailed event listings for more information.

Many of our events require registration.  Registration opens for Mahwah cardholders four weeks before the date of the event.Those without a Mahwah Library card are welcome to register two weeks before the event.

    Teens in grades 5 and up can sign-up for this fun after hours event. Participants will receive fun items to interact with, so they can feel like they are part of the movie! Our doors will open starting at 6:00 PM, and guests will have until 6:30 PM to arrive. Light refreshments will be served.

    On the night of the event, a parent or guardian MUST walk their teen to the front lower level door and sign a permission form (if they haven’t done so in advance) in order for their teen to be allowed to participate.

  • 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Virtual Mock ACT Test
    9:00 am – 1:00 pm

    Students in grades 9 – 12 can take the test online with a live proctor through Revolution Prep, and get a baseline score. Prior to the test, Revolution Prep will send an email with details on how to access the testing materials, scoring app, and online testing room. After the test scores are received immediately via the Revolution Prep scoring app and you’re invited to review your student’s scores, for free, with our dedicated academic Advisor at a time convenient for you. During the session, they will breakdown your child’s score to understand areas of strength and weakness and develop a custom preparation plan.

    Teens in grades 5 and up, will use different materialsto build a boat that will float across water in the fastest time, while testing two factors: density and buoyancy. Participants will be notified when they can pick up a kit with special materials, and will be emailed an instructional video to follow along.

    Please note: attendees must bring a t-shirt they wish to dye. If you do not bring your own shirt, you will not be able to participate. Pre-washing the shirt and using shirts with 100% natural fiber fabrics like cotton, rayon and wool will yield the best results.

    Students will design a variety of challenges to maneuver a marble through their very own mini-golf course. Once constructed the students can face off in a game of mini golf to see who’s course is the most challenging!

    Teens in grades 5 and up will learn to create a cute Baby Yeti! Part of the proceeds will be donated to help various Ukrainian charities. Participants will be notified when they can pick up a special craft kit which has all of the specific project materials. On Friday, June 3 they will then receive the link to a step-by-step instructional video, as well as a PDF instructional booklet, and will have the chance to follow along at their leisure!

Whether it is trying to figure out how to get their glow-in-the-dark diver to move up and down without touching it, or getting the two divers to hook onto each other, they are sure to love making a game of it and creating challenges of their own!

    Join us for a special book signing & reading event with teen author and award-winning filmmaker Mark Leschinsky! Kids from elementary through middle school are invited on an adventure with an adorable rabbit, Beanie! He will guide them through the process of making their own movie with kid-friendly explanations and illustrations. A batch of free copies of the book will be available for kids to read through, get signed, and keep after the event! Tips will also be given on how to publish your very own book.

    *Photos will be taken during and after the event. Please let us know if you don’t want your child’s photo taken.

    Join us on Wednesdays 6/29 & 7/6 from 7:15 to 8:00 PM to learn how to storyboard Hollywood-level movies and express yourself through the diverse art of filmmaking! Taught by an award-winning student filmmaker, The Lighthouse Initiative Filmmaking Program covers all aspects of storyboarding your very own film. We’ll learn about the materials used for storyboarding, different techniques, and how it is used to make your film come together!

    Teens in grades 5 and up will make a cute Otter Wall Hanging by hand! Participants will be notified when they can pick up a special craft kit which has all of the specific project materials. On Friday, July 1 they will then receive the link to a step-by-step instructional video, as well as a PDF instructional booklet, and will have the chance to follow along at their leisure!

Taught by an award-winning student filmmaker, The Lighthouse Initiative Filmmaking Program covers all aspects of storyboarding your very own film.     No matter what age the children will love to work with buoyancy and water pressure as they create their very own Cartesian diver in a bottle. Younger children can figure out how to get their glow in the dark diver to move up and down without touching it. While older children will love to make a game of it, by creating two Cartesian divers that they will try to hook onto each other without actually touching the pieces.
