Summer reading is both fun and rewarding at the Library! Simply track your reading to earn rewards!
What counts? You can read books, ebooks, magazines, comics, graphic novels, listen to audiobooks… anything you want! Track the time you spend reading in Beanstack to earn badges, coupons for snacks and beverages, and tickets for amazing raffle baskets donated by local businesses!
The Youth Challenge is designed for children from birth through high-school. (Students who have just finished 5th grade are welcome to choose between the Children’s or Teen Summer Reading Challenge.) To complete this challenge, we suggest you read 20 minutes a day.

Everyone enrolled in our Summer Reading Challenge can earn up to 12 raffle tickets. Earn tickets simply by reading! Adult receive one ticket per book read, teens and children get one ticket per 60 minutes read. (Limit 12 tickets per participant.)

Participation in our Summer Reading Challenge is easy! Simply login to Beanstack and create your account. (Parents can quickly create accounts for their children and help them track their progress.) Remember to track your reading throughout the summer. Whenever you hit a challenge goal, we’ll let you know that you’re eligible to claim your reward!
On the go this summer? No problem! Use the Beanstack mobile app to track your reading while traveling. Remember that reading and listening online counts towards your reading goals!
The Summer Reading Challenge is for Mahwah residents only. We encourage you to visit your local library to participate in their summer reading activities.
Nonresidents can still attend some programs. Check our calendar of events for registration information.
You do not need a Mahwah Library card to participate, but we highly encourage you to register for a card. Registration is free and gives you access to a ton of awesome resources and services!
Participants in all Summer Reading Challenges have the chance to win up to 12 raffle tickets that they can use towards any of our incredible raffle baskets, with goods and services provided by Mahwah businesses.
Simply login to your Beanstack account to track your progress and see what rewards you are eligible for at every level.
As soon as they are earned! Simply stop by the Library during normal hours to claim your reward.
Raffle winners will be announced the week of August 26 and will be contacted by phone or email.
All rewards and raffles must be claimed by Saturday, September 7.
The Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Challenges are structured the same: there are 12 reward levels for logging reading minutes and earning raffle tickets. Participants in both the Children’s and Teen Summer Reading Challenges must read 12 hours in order to earn all of the badges and complete the challenge. If your child has just finished 5th grade, they are welcome to choose either the Children’s or Teen Summer Reading Challenge

The Library is closed for Easter.

Although the Library may be closed, our online services are always available! Borrow eBooks, audiobooks, music, videos, magazines, and even online learning at any time.
Due to the anticipated snowfall overnight and into the morning, the Mahwah Library will be closed Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
