Devices & Kits for Youth

Engage Your Child with an Educational STEM Kit from the Library!

  • Devices are available to Mahwah adult cardholders 18 years and older.
  • Devices may be borrowed for 14 days and are not renewable.
  • Two devices may be borrowed at the same time per household.
  • Devices are available on first come, first served basis and may not be reserved. Visit the display at the Children’s Services Desk to see which devices are currently available to borrow.
  • Want to check out a device again? Households must wait 1 week to borrow the same device, but you may borrow a different device immediately as long as it is available.

Borrowing

  • Visit the display at the Children’s Services Desk to see what devices are currently available to borrow.
  • Choose the case matching the device you’d like to borrow and give it to a staff member at the Children’s Services Desk, then fill out and sign a Lending Form.
  • Before checking out the device, a staff member will go over each item in the case, verifying that each item is present and in good condition.

Returns

  • Return the device to a staff member at the Children’s Services Desk before closing at the end of your loan in order to avoid fees.
  • Devices may not be returned to another library or in the book drop.
  • Devices must be returned in the condition that they are received, including the case and all accessories in order to avoid fees.
  • There is no charge to borrow a kit.
  • Devices returned late are charged $10 per day. After 7 days, patrons must pay the full replacement cost of the kit.
  • If the kit is lost or damaged beyond repair, patrons must pay the full replacement cost listed.
  • Any component (remote control, cable, case, batteries, etc.) not returned with the device will incur a replacement cost.
  • Devices will not be checked in until all components are either returned or declared lost, and patrons are responsible for any late fees that may accrue during that time.
